TEXT OF THE SPEECH BY THE AMBASSADOR OF TURKEY TO NIGERIA, H. E. MR. MUSTAFA PULAT ON THE PRIZE GIVING CEREMONY OF THE MATHEMATICS COMPETITION

Dear Students, Dear Parents, Distinguished Guests, Members of the Press, Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is a great pleasure for me to be invited to Annual Prize Giving Ceremony for outstanding students in the National Mathematics Competition and to address such talented young minds. I would like to extend my sincere wishes for the potential winners here today, whose hard work would pay off.

Mathematics is the foundation of many sciences and its importance at the basic level cannot be overemphasised for any student. The importance of mathematics translates across many disciplines. Any individual wishing to be successful has to have a good grasp of Mathematics.

However, it is a well known fact that most of the students shy away from mathematics or have difficulty in grasping the basic principles.

Children are our future. The bright faces receiving prizes here today may turn out to be the creative scientists of our tomorrow.

I would like to extend my personal appreciation to the teachers on whose hands lay the knowledge they are diligently imparting to the students. Children are like clay that can be formed into any shape at such young ages.

I therefore entreat the parents and teachers to focus on developing children in a holistic manner, instilling deep moral values, love for Nigeria, the world and humanity in order to make them worthy assets of this proud nation.

I congratulate the children, who will get prizes here today, and their parents as well as their teachers for their hard work and commitment.

The ones who would not get a prize today, should not be discouraged, on the contrary they should work harder to be rewarded next time. I commend all of the students here for their courage to participate in.

Thank you.
